Random Ramblings + Rise Conference LIVE + What Do You Do?

Just Me Chelsea B Random RamblingsIt’s been a while since I’ve shared some random ramblings with you, so I figured today would be a good day for it. It’s pretty gloomy outside today and I’ve been knocking out a ton of work for the day, so I’m coming to you from JMCB “headquarters” (aka my couch) with a strong 2nd cup of coffee in hand as I write this. If you see 10834 typos in today’s post, just blame it on the coffee and my brain moving much faster than my fingers. 😉

I’ve got a little bit of foodie-ness, a little bit of running and some serious excitement for the weekend ahead, so let’s get right into it.

I was having a random baked goods craving last week and decided it was time to break out the muffin mix. But, the thing is, we are sans muffin tins in our household. Somehow we lost the one we used to use so my stepmom gifted us with a Tupperware Donut mold a few years ago and it swooped in and saved the day. I present you with “Blueberry Duffins”. haha! It’s a muffin on the top with a donut bottom and the taste of blueberry goodness.

I’ve been totally obsessed with tossing everything in a bowl and calling it a dish for breakfast, lunch or dinner. I think it really goes with the current theme of life right now which is “go with the flow”, don’t you agree? This brunch bowl was part hashbrowns, part roasted sweet potatoes and part scrambled eggs. So good and savory. Savory Brunch BowlLast Monday was literally the best getting to re-watch the past several years of the Boston Marathon. Des Linden’s win was my all-time favorite and her husband cheering couldn’t have been any cuter. I love them and can’t wait to see Des race again in the Fall. (Fingers crossed Boston really does happen…) These Olympic Channel re-runs have been so fun to watch over again. I watched the Chicago Marathon the other day when Neely Grace shined through and it was a really good watch too. I’m such a run nerd and get way too excited when these are on tv. Now if I could only run one of these big races one day and get to be there in person! #goalsDes Linden Boston WinRe-watching those races is the best motivation to get outside for a run. Quick question for you: How often do you include hill workouts? Do you do them once a week, more, less? I’m trying to figure out what’s the best way to incorporate the torture them but I’m not 100% sure how often I need to do them to make them effective. I’m assuming anything is better than I do now which is a big zero. 😉 So, what do you suggest? Any tips on hill workouts? Little Rock BloggerThe other day on Instagram stories, Ali On The Run asked her followers what they do for their job and I thought it was such a fun question to ask! We mostly see the fun stuff on social media but we hear less about or even know what everyone does for work, so I thought it would be fun to ask you too! Thanks, Ali for the inspo! 🙂 So, what’s your day job? I am a Social Media Manager and Content Creator and I love love love my job. I get to help small businesses grow through online marketing and it’s my favorite thing ever. I work usually about 6 days a week or so but the thing is, it never really feels like work. And, I can do it from wherever as I’m remote which is a serious highlight of my job. I’ve been doing it full-time for about 2 1/2 years as a freelancer and contracted writer and have been able to work with some really fun businesses out there. It’s so fun and I couldn’t be more thankful to get to do something I love every day. I graduated from college with a Bachelors in Mass Communications with a focus in Broadcast Journalism, so to be able to get into marketing has been a total dream.

Your turn! Tell me in the comments what you do! I can’t wait to hear all about it!

Speaking of work, I work with one of the most amazing girls ever right here in Central Arkansas and she gifted me with a ticket to the Rise Conference LIVE with Rachel Hollis this weekend! I’m coming up on my 1 year work anniversary with her at the end of May so she surprised me with the sweetest e-mail the other day telling me I’m going to the conference this Saturday! (And by “going”, I mean watching from my couch…;)) I can’t wait! Nick is excited to join too because he’s a big fan of Ed Mylett who’s going to be speaking. It’s going to be so good! I’ll be sure to post a recap next week.

I’ve also been loving watching Gwen Jorgensen’s YouTube updates lately. Her group workouts are my favorite. Those women are so inspiring to watch!

Last but not least, anyone else feel this meme in their soul? hahaha. I know I do.

Alright. That’s enough random ramblings for today. I’m off to attempt some form of a strength workout today which has been so hard to find the motivation for. Here’s hoping it’s a good one! Thanks for stopping by the blog today! Enjoy the rest of your Tuesday!

Questions for YOU:

Do you like watching running races like I do? Or am I the only run nerd around? 😉

What’s your day job? How long have you been doing it?

If you had to choose, donut or muffin? What’s your favorite?

**Don’t forget I would love for you to share your thoughts on hill workouts and how you incorporate them into your routine! I can’t wait to hear your thoughts! Thanks in advance!

  1. Hey there – I am writing to you from Western Australia. No idea how I came across your blog! I work as a campaign communicator and used work in social media. I also run! Small world!

Hills – I would treat the same as speed work……so pencil in a hill session like you would a track session etc. A good one to start is a 2km WU, 4*500m hill sprints with a 500m down recovery, 2km CD. Then build up to 8 repeats. Adding hills to long runs etc is great training also – hills are speed work in disguise. What are you training for? Or what were you training for? I just did a 1/2 marathon TT (PB!) and hoping to do a marathon in October….not sure if it will go ahead though.

    1. Hi Gilly! I’m so glad you found my blog! How fun to get to work as a campaign communicator! That would be a really fun job, I’m sure with plenty of challenges too! It’s definitely a small world with us social media managers out there! 😉 And thank you so much for your hill advice! I’m the worst with adding these in but your tips are awesome!! I’m not technically training for anything right now with all of the cancellations but I’m just trying to increase my endurance and stamina to be able to work back up to a 1/2 marathon distance by the end of the year! I’ll give those workouts a try for sure as hills are my worst enemy! haha! Good luck with your marathon in October!!! I’ll cross my fingers and toes it doesn’t get cancelled!!

      1. It’s definitely fun and definitely stretches me also! I do financial campaigns to mortgage brokers so we are under the pump at the moment – good to be working and busy 🙂

That’s a great goal to have and in one way not having a set race takes the pressure off. You can build up as long as you need too – no pressure to get a base built quickly. I just added you on Strava, so be great to follow you there. Really enjoying your blog. Thanks x

  2. We are so similar! I work in social media content creation (for a school district) and my college degree was in broadcast journalism, and I’m also a runner! Your job sounds so awesome and it’s something I’d love to get into because I’d really like to help out smaller local businesses!

I actually love hill work because I’m crazy 😝 but I usually do it at least once a week, twice at most because I don’t want to get an injury. I usually do my hill sessions at a park near me that has a dirt hill/ramp and I do a couple warmup loops around the park before running down the hill and sprinting back up. I do anywhere from 5-10 repeats, depending on my mood, so about a mile or two of hill repeats, and then a mile cool down.

    1. Hi Ashley! That’s so amazing–we’re definitely so much alike! How fun! I love that you work for a school district! That would be such a great job to get into with content creation–you could do so many fun things. I love being able to help small businesses–it’s such a diverse job with so many different ways to help my clients grow. Plus for them, anything helps which is always nice. <3! Okay–I need your hill motivation because they're my LEAST favorite thing ever. They're SO hard and leave me so exhausted. I'm like you though–don't want any sort of injuries any time soon, or ever. But, I'll definitely try the 5-10 repeats next workout. Thanks girly!! Have an amazing day!
