It feels like it’s been so long since I’ve been able to catch up with you! What a crazy past few weeks its been in our world. I feel like I may say that pretty frequently though, as its become our norm.
So much has happened that I need to catch you up on, so what better way than sharing a ton of randoms with you! I say let’s do it!
First things first, it feels like Summer is officially here in Arkansas! It’s been H-O-T and H-U-M-I-D! Bring on all the red-faced and sweaty runs! Is anyone else feeling the heat kick up a notch where you live? Our Spring flew by!
The treadmill is definitely still my close B-F-F though! I’m always thankful for A/C! 😉
We celebrated Memorial Day with my dad on Lake Hamilton in Hot Springs! It was a gorgeous day and the perfect spot to catch the fireworks.
A lot of our city is officially flooded from the recent upstream flows from Oklahoma and Kansas! This picture was from just a few days into the flooding but a majority of this bridge on the left side is completely submerged underwater! They say this is the “100-year flood” for our state, and it’s without a doubt the highest amount of water I’ve ever seen in our river! A lot of homes have been flooded as well and the park that we walk at almost daily has been closed for over a week now.
We’re hoping to get back out there in the coming weeks but I’m sure it won’t look quite the same for a really long time! (This was also a picture from just a few days into rising waters. This part of the river is currently completely underwater and overflowing!)
In other news, our breakfast dates have been going strong though! Instead of our typical walks by the river post-coffee, we’ve been taking a morning stroll down through one of our favorite neighborhoods, “Hillcrest”. I hope we can find a rental there next time we move because it’s so walkable and friendly! I love it! Plus, our favorite coffee shop, “The Meteor” is there which would probably steal all of our money but be totally worth it for their amazing coffee! 🙂
I’ve been obsessing over this hummus with pretzels and pita chips lately! It really makes for the perfect snack!
We had a really scary moment in my family this week–as my dad survived a heart attack early Monday morning. He had 100% blockage in one of his arteries and had a stint put in to help. He’s out of the hospital as of yesterday and is back home on the road to recovery. I couldn’t believe it happened but so happy he survived because they said if he wouldn’t have called 911 when he did, he wouldn’t have made it. So, just a gentle reminder to call those you love and make sure they know how special they are to you!
As soon as we got home from the hospital, we hit up the grocery store for all the heart-healthy foods. We steamed asparagus alongside sweet potatoes that were baked in the oven and shrimp for dinner! It was delicious and felt so good to be making really good choices in the kitchen!
Honesty moment:
We’ve honestly had the hardest time the past few months with keeping a regular routine in the gym and healthy eating while living in our latest flip house. It’s hit us HARD and taught us that this has to be the last time we live in one of our projects because it’s just NOT very realistic to be able to function at our best living in a construction zone. We’ve done it 5 times now so I think we’ve done our time! 😉 A lot of people ask us how we survive renovation projects without losing our hair along the way and I say the same thing every time–it’s not easy but it’s always worth it in the end. Without a doubt, not having a fully functioning kitchen (we’ve been without a refrigerator for over 2 1/2 months now…) and other basic necessities to live on–it really takes a toll on your mental and physical health. This project has challenged us in more ways than one as it seems like some challenge is facing us, but we really are near the finish line. We’re thinking we should be done with this house by July so once we’re on the market we’re going to find a new place to call home and stay put for a good while alongside flipping houses. We really can’t wait for this change! Of course, I don’t want to just complain and make it seem so terrible all the time because it’s definitely not the worst and could be 10 million times harder but we just know it’s time to settle down into something more consistent for us. It’s going to be amazing for so many reasons! The thought of being able to truly call somewhere home is going to feel so good and just to not move every 6 months sure will be a welcomed lifestyle in our world. 🙂 It’s funny how you change as you get older. I find myself longing for the simple things like having my own garden and the same place to put our Christmas tree each year more now that the years have gone on in our flipping career. So, here’s to settling down and finding a new place to call home really soon!
Alright, with all of that, I suppose it’s time to head off to grab dinner! Thank you, as always, for stopping by the blog today! I hope you’re heading into Friday with all the good vibes! I’ll catch up with you guys again soon!
I am so sorry to hear about your dad but happy to hear he is on the road to recovery now! I hope you are able to find a place to call home very shortly so you can have all you want in a house! Kudos to you for being able to live in the houses you’re flipping! It must be pretty cool to be able to wake up and get right to work or work late into the evening without worrying about getting home.
I hope you have a great week!
Thank you so much Emily!!! Yes, he’s recovering now and doing MUCH better! Thank goodness!!
It’s definitely a crazy life flipping houses but we sure do love it! 🙂
Have a great week girl!!
