It has been just a bit since I’ve updated you on my latest runs with training for the Soaring Wings half marathon. I’m about 7 weeks out from race day and have been keeping up with my training plan as much as I can. Although I despise hill work, I’ve made sure to include hills in almost every single one of my runs. While I wish I could say it gets easier to make the climb up, some days it sure doesn’t feel any better than the time before. But, saying that too, I feel like I can definitely feel the difference in my endurance as I’ve been making sure to add in so much hill work with my workouts. I’ve been using the heck out of my mantra’s like “Dig Deep”, “No Excuses”, and pretty much anything else I can to get my focus off of the hill pain.
This week marked my first “long” run that I’ve had in a really long time. I knocked out 7 miles yesterday and earned every single step. We’ve been having amazing weather lately, but somehow I picked the warmest weather day to get my long run in. It didn’t help I waited until the middle of the afternoon to get going either. But, nonetheless I made it through and survived my run. It did give me some hope that I can get to adding in longer runs in the next couple of weeks. It was no doubt hard, mentally and physically, but still doable.
This was me the whole time though with temps in the low 90’s, GIVE ME ALL THE WATER!!
I’d say this training cycle is going pretty well overall though. I do have to get better with getting in my strength workouts. But, at least I’ve been doing a ton of Yoga with Adriene, Beachbody on Demand yoga sessions, foam rolling, and my favorite Friday long walks.
Then, maybe numbers like these will come around more often….
Not so sure where that last 1.5 mile pace came from, but I’ll glady take it when I can get it!

Questions for YOU: (Comment below with your thoughts!)
What is your favorite running mantra?
I’d say “Did Deep” is my favorite one. It really helps me focus on my “inner” strength that I can tap into when the going gets tough.
