When the #sundayscaries finally subside, you know you’re doing something right. Right? There’s just something so refreshing about starting a new week to me. I love setting myself up on the weekends to get ready for the next 5 days filled with shiny new goals, plans and a fresh mindset to accomplish everything needed for the upcoming week. Before I get started with getting ready to start a new week though, I make sure to fill our weekends with all the relaxing and unwinding things we can squeeze into two days! 💕
In my last past, I mentioned wanting to share more of the day-to-day going on in our world versus sporadic posting so that’s what today’s post is all about! I wanted to recap our weekend! Grab yourself a cup of warm coffee or tea and let’s catch up!
Back to Saturday morning we go!
We started off the weekend with a gloomy slow morning filled with plenty of thunder, mud puddles and coffee. The dogs had been inside for what feels like forever because it’s been raining NON-STOP here the past week or so. We had a teeny tiny break one afternoon last week and that was about it. But, I have to admit–starting a Saturday slow isn’t the worst in my opinion.
Rain + a warm cup of coffee go together so perfectly. ☕️
After taking the dogs out in the mud puddles for their morning walk, it was time to fuel up with some breakfast! My toast streak continues but this time, instead of avo toast, it was all things PB! I like to add Purely Elizabeth granola on top for something sweet and crunchy. You also cannot go wrong with bananas on top of PB either.
We decided to take advantage of the gloominess and headed to the gym early to hopefully beat the crowd before the day really got going. I got in a good 3.5 mile run filled with hill work and a little bit of speed. My Garmin died though so I did’t get to track it, but I figured it surely wasn’t the end of the world by any means. 😉I counted my Saturday workout as “cardio day” and strictly stuck to cardio for the duration of the workout session. No weights or machines!
I decided chili and a simple salad sounded good post-workout. This chili turned out to be super filling and really delicious! Chili on a cold and rainy day should be a requirement.
The sun FINALLY decided to come out for the afternoon, so we headed straight outside for some Vitamin D! 3 miles of walking/jogging in the sunshine felt so good! What a difference a few hours can make–from gloomy thunderstorms to sunny skies!
We spent the rest of Saturday afternoon/night watching basketball. It was a successful WIN for my mom’s favorite, Kentucky Wildcats! Fun fact: My entire family is from Kentucky and a majority of them still live there! So, Kentucky basketball is in my blood and we probably haven’t missed watching a single game in…well….my entire life. We also always catch the Duke games too! They got a W this weekend! (Also, we stream TV through the computer because we’re team #nocable in our house! We watch with my mom’s DirectTV Now and use Netflix/Hulu when we’re in the mood to watch TV!)
Sunday morning = Same view but ALL the sunshine! 🙌🏻☀️
It was time to head to the gym for a full body workout! If you follow me on Instagram, I shared a few of my workouts on my stories! I did weighted squats with 17.5 pound weights, weighted lunges with a 17.5 dumbbell and elevated pushups on the exercise ball! I followed those up with a few leg/arm and ab machines too! (Hello soreness!)
After the gym, we headed straight to the grocery store for some snacks/lunch! First we stopped at Drug Emporium/Vitamin Plus! Sadly, these sweets below didn’t make it in our basket, but they sure were tempting! We’ve created a habit of heading straight to our favorite grocery stores, either Natural Grocers or Drug Emporium/Vitamins Plus, right after the gym. Where we’re currently living (only a few more weeks!! 🙌🏻), it takes us about 12-15 minutes to get to the gym and the grocery stores we like. So, we try to take advantage of our trips across town and grab what we need when we’re close by. We usually grab our go-to drinks and a few snacks post gym. I could seriously spend hours roaming through the snacks and baking aisles of Vitamin Plus.
We grabbed some waters and then headed across the street to Natural Grocers for our go-to produce and drinks! Blueberry Cherry Sparkling Probiotic for the win!
One last grocery stop– (yes, we shop at a variety of places because there’s not ONE place that has everything we like…sadly), Kroger for veggie sushi rolls!
I followed up my delicious lunch with some fresh blackberries! Seriously, natures candy! This box went fast and was gone within minutes.
When we finished eating lunch, we couldn’t wait to get the dogs outside to play in the field across the street. Can you tell they had fun? Joey had his ball to play with, which is what makes his world go around. 😆Cooper just roams around and lets the wind blow in his hair because he’s never been much of a fetch player. HA! He chases Joey for a few minutes and then gets tired. He seemed happy to see the sunshine though.
The one thing about having two senior dogs is that they sure don’t require much exercise and about 20 minutes does it for them before they wear themselves out for the day.
His fluffy pillow was calling his name for nap time.
We spent the rest of the afternoon resting and I caught up on my favorite person ever, Jennifer Garner on FB/Instagram! She’s seriously the best and has the cutest videos/content ever! If I could be friends with any celebrity, she’s probably at the top of my list. #soulsister
We headed over to my mom’s for a little while too and I completely forgot to snap a picture while we were there! My mom shares my love for crazy crime shows, so we had to catch up on everything we’ve been obsessing over lately. Then, we headed to grab some dinner which was BBQ sandwiches! They were extra delicious after our super active day!
We wrapped up Sunday night watching the Oscars! That performance from Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga totally won the night. Anyone else a fan of theirs?
The dogs were big fans of their pillows for the night though and not so much anyone on the Oscars. Tired grandpa boys.
It was a super relaxing and slow weekend, which are my favorite kind! I hope yours was filled with much of the same or whatever it is that recharges your batteries for a new week ahead! Today (Monday) will be filled with some work, some outside time and of course, yoga! Fingers crossed this rest day will help with the soreness that has taken over from my full body workout yesterday!
If you liked today’s recap post, be sure to tell me in the comments below! I really enjoyed writing it and can’t wait to do more of these!
